My first visit to Virginia Beach was for spring break. At that time I was in college and Virginia Beach was the place to go. Fun, friends and more fun! Getting there was half the fun- driving to Virginia from New York via the Chesapeake Bay Bridge was an awesome experience and if you haven't tried this, prepare yourself for a daunting and exciting experience. This bridge leads you toward the east shores of Virginia Beach. What a great place to consider for a family vacation, and although it is not as quaint a place as it was years ago when I first visited, the coastline is exciting and upbeat, and has gone through major changes, with some wonderful and amazing hotels, with exciting activities along the shore.
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge is considered an engineering marvel and it is from here you can see a great view of the bay, with the birds, the seagulls, and waterfowls. It then leads you to the coastline of amazement, not limiting you to just enjoying the sandy beaches, fishing or chasing an occasional dolphin. There are also a variety of stores for shopping, restaurants and video gaming kiosks for those who enjoy an occasional challenge. Expect to be excited and entertained!
If you have children, drive south a couple of miles away from the coast you will find the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. It's amazing to see the species of birds that migrate here, and then continue on for a visit to the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center for the cool indoor aquatic experience, or in case it's a rainy day. Another fun-filled adventure for the kids is the Ocean Breeze Water Park. With sixteen water slides, the Runaway Bay wave pool and the Buccaneer Bay Water Playground, you won't hear any cries of "Mom, I'm bored". In fact they'll have so much fun; you'll find that you have to visit again and again.
Virginia Beach has something for everyone in the family but it is also an excellent place for destination weddings, history buffs or just for a relaxing retreat. A Virginia Beach vacation is affordable and you can plan your visit to cater to your personal budget. There are plenty of free or inexpensive things to do in Virginia Beach.
